CXD ARCHIVAL BOX GRADES

The Premier Duo™ archival folding boxboard range has for many years been the benchmark for quality boxmaking, delivering the highest level of archival protection for valuable and irreplaceable collections. Manufactured by laminating two  or more sheets of CXD Heritage Archival pHotokraft™ paper using CXD Evacon R™ adhesive. It is permanent and durable, acid-free, lignin-free, and free from optical brightening agents . It meets PAT ISO18916 and ISO 9706 standards. The board has exceptional fold and tear strength with the highest standards of purity for  long-term preservation. The colour is lightfast and bleed proof. Its solid board construction gives excellent protection again fire, flood and insect habitation unlike fluted boards.


It is the material of choice for many national museums, archives, and special collections where the highest standards of preservation are required.

Premier Duo™ combines exceptional physical protection with the long-term permanence expected from a true conservation-grade storage product.

Premier Duo™ Fluted Boxboard is constructed using the same “lightfast and bleed-proof"  CXD Heritage Archival pHotokraft™ paper as the Premier Duo™ solid boxboard. The long kraft fibre used in this paper gives the board  exceptional strength. The process of corrugation creates a lightweight but ridged board that is ideal for oversized boxes such as textile storage boxes. Fluting allows thicker boards to be created. They use a variety of Flute sizes and combinations such E Flute, NE Flute, and EB Flute. The flutes create channels of air which make the board light in weight. It is easy to cut and fold but not very resistant to fire or water even though the paper is well sized for water resistance.


CXD Premier Duo™ Fluted Archival Boxboard differs from standard brown fluted board because of the quality of paper used to create it. The long-fibred conservation-quality paper provides outstanding rigidity,  durability, and long-term archival performance. The fluted construction provides excellent compression strength while remaining much lighter than solid-centre boxboard.

Suitable for the long-term storage of textiles, parchments, documents, and oversized  items.

LUXO™ Archival Boxboard is made on an intermittent cylinder board machine. This process creates boards of varying thickness without the use of adhesive. Paper fibre is built up in layers every time the cylinder rotates. When the desired thickness is achieved, the board is cut from the cylinder, and it is cut to size and pressed to the required density. Depending on the fibre used, this can create boards of create strength and durability.


LUXO™ is manufactured from fully archival virgin fibre, it is permanent, durable, acid-free, lignin-free and free from optical brightening agents, delivering exceptional long-term protection for valuable collections and the confidence required for permanent preservation.

The board is coloured throughout using bleed-proof pigments to provide long-term colour stability. Designed to meet internationally recognized archival standards, LUXO™ is suitable for the permanent preservation of documents, photographs, books and museum collections where long-term conservation is the priority.

EcopHant™ Archival Boxboard combines high-performance archival protection with a more sustainable approach to conservation storage. Manufactured exclusively from 100% recycled archival-quality paper and CXD Premier™ Archival Folding Boxboard off cuts, creating a durable board with excellent archival properties.


Unlike conventional adhesive laminated boards, EcopHant™ board is manufactured using a unique wet-laid process that creates a dense, homogeneous board. EcopHant™ Archival Boxboard is made on an intermittent cylinder board machine. When the desired thickness is achieved, the board is cut from the cylinder, and it is cut to size and pressed to the required density. The CXD fibre used creates a board of great strength and durability.

REVO™ has been developed to provide an excellent balance between archival performance and affordability. Manufactured from selected acid-free recycled paper with a low lignin content, alkaline buffer and high fibre density, it provides dependable mechanical strength for demanding storage applications.


REVO™ is water resistant, coloured with a high-quality bleed-proof pigment and PAT tested. It is suitable for the medium to long-term storage of archives, documents, and collections requiring reliable, purpose-designed archival protection.

REVO™ is an ideal choice for archives, libraries and institutions managing large collections where durability, consistency and cost efficiency are equally important considerations.

DURO™ provides an alternative to fluted cardboard storage solution s for collections where a full archival  specification is not essential. Manufactured from non-selected recycled paper fibres, the board is alkaline buffered to raise the pH and  help extend its lifespan. DURO provides improved protection compared with conventional l ow grade  packaging materials.


Although DURO™ does not carry the same archival qualifications as the higher grades within the range, it still offers significantly greater protection against handling damage, dust, insects and environmental fluctuations than standard corrugated board.

DURO™ is best suited to short or medium-term storage, working collections and applications where budget is a primary consideration whilst still requiring a purpose-designed  durable storage solution.
